In March, the newest professional snowboarding league will make its debut in Aspen, Colorado. That mountain town will be home to the only stateside stops all season long.
The locations for the 2025–26 season have been announced, and Aspen is fortunate enough to land two of the contests.
It will premier the X Games at Buttermilk from March 7-8, 2025. Then the second stop will go down from Dec. 4–6, 2025, at the Yunding Secret Garden in China.
Stop three will return to Buttermilk at Aspen Snowmass from Feb 26–28, 2026, and stop four will head to LAAX, Switzerland from March 19–21, 2026.
All four stops are at legendary and historical venues for snowboarding.
“Every stop on this schedule has been designed with the athletes in mind, and as for these destination halfpipes,” founder Shaun White said. “I’ve personally had the pleasure of competing in all of them over the years.”
The large gap in the schedule will make space for the 2026 Olympics in Italy. The winner will be crowned at the LAAX stop.
“The Snow League brings to life the kind of unified global competition I could only dream of during my career,” White said in a press release. “We’ve already assembled the best athletes and are now delivering on our promise to host competitions at world-class resorts.”
The Snow League will feature a $1.6 million prize pool. Each event will give $370,000 to the winners, and prize money between men and women will be evenly distributed. Riders will get a $5,000 appearance fee for showing up, and the Snow League World Champion will take home an additional $160,000.
Athletes will earn points based on their results from each event. Those will be tallied together at the end of the season to crown a champion.
“A true world champion deserves a championship-worthy stage. These resorts boast the best halfpipes on the planet, crafted by the most skilled builders in the industry,” Sandy Macdonald, the head of competition, said in a press release. “Their dedication to maintaining competition-standard, state-of-the-art facilities sets the bar for excellence—exactly what The Snow League demands.”
Last week, the contest announced that OutKast’s Big Boi will headline a live performance to close out the two-day debut. Maddie Mastro, Maddy Schaffrick, and Ayumu Hirano will all compete at Buttermilk Mountain on March 7 and 8, 2025 in Snow League's debut. The full field will consist of 36 athletes, with 20 men and 16 women.
Hirano, 25, will be joined by his 21-year-old brother Kaishu Hirano. Japanese standouts Ruka Hirano and Ryusei Yamada are also among the list of athletes competing.
