When you really stop to think about it, it's kind of crazy.

Snowboarders jump off massive kickers in the terrain park, the roof of buildings in the streets, and 15-foot step downs in the backcountry. Countless hours are spent talking about the right combination of board and bindings for these acts, but rarely do we talk about what goes on our feet. Or rather, what goes in what goes in our feet.

That is where Remind Insoles comes in. The technology of the custom, heat moldable insole is nothing new, and is not specific to snowboarding. Runners, hockey players, and skiers have been in this world for decades, but Remind founder John Makens realized early on that the demands of a snowboarder and skateboarder are far different from those of other activities. Remind Insoles was born in 2008.

The 'Solution' boot liner first debuted back in 2012. The most recent version dropped in time for the 2024/2025 season. If you deal with foot pain on the hill, or any other problems that arise when you make the decision to be active over the age of 30, this liner can get you one step closer to a season with as many runs as possible.

MSRP: $195

Context

I rode the Remind Solution liners in my ThirtyTwo Lashed boots. I rode them at Black Mountain of Maine, Waterville Valley in New Hampshire, and Bear Creek in Pennsylvania. I rode them with my Union STR bindings, Union Strata bindings, and K2 Far Out bindings.

I rode on my Whitespace Shaun White Freestyle Pro, Brackish Co. Resort Ripper, Dinosaurs Will Die MaeTier, and my Wndr Alpine Shephard Tour. I rode in powder, icy groomers, and classic east coast chunder.

What Snowboarder says:

I did not realize that I needed custom boot liners until I tried the Solution out for myself.

Let’s get one thing straight: any brand that has the backing of Travis Rice, Chad Otterstrom, Mark Carter, Bjorn Leines, John Jackson, and Bryan Iguchi demands respect.

Though the company has been around for a while, I hadn’t heard much buzz about them. That’s fair, boot liners and insoles aren’t the most exciting thing to talk about when you walk into your local shop.

My first impression of the Solution liner did not necessarily take place when I took them out of the box, but rather, when I removed the liner to my Lashed boots. It was soft. It was floppy. It did not offer any support at all. The Solution, on the other hand, was sturdy. It wasn’t rigid like a ski boot (thankfully), but firm. I had to wrestle the liner a little bit to ensure it fit correctly in my boot, but once I did, I felt the upgrade immediately.

Stock liners and insoles can often pack out quickly. Many models are built for someone who is only riding about 15 days a year. If you’re riding more than that, trying to land tricks, or if you're trying to make the outer boot last longer, a higher-quality liner is needed. The Solution offers more customization, as well. That’s what led Makens to revisit the original Solution and upgrade it for the current day.

“Just creating a product that can handle all the beatings and the support you need and the right alignment, that’s what inspired the boot liner,” Makens said.

The liner offers Velcro fasteners on the side of the tongue, which is aimed at keeping it secure to a rider’s shin. When you’re charging down the mountain and doing a toe-side turn at 45 miles-per-hour, that’s pretty important. The lacing system can be tightened and loosened by a single clasp. It offers a second option to really lock down the rider’s foot into a boot. Some riders cut this out, if they think it’s unnecessary. I left it in, and tightened it up nearly as tight as I could.

Perhaps most impressive is the footbed. Even in the most expensive pair of snowboard boots, the insole resembles the exact same thing you’d pull our of a pair of Nike Vomeros or Vans Half-Cab skate shoes. That is, it is simply a piece of foam.

The Solution liner offers a sturdy, heat-moldable Remedy insole that will take the shape of your foot over time. There’s ample arch support, several layers of cushion, and a waffle pattern on the bottom that absorbs some of the impact without shooting pain all the way up into your hips and lower back. That same waffle pattern can be found on the bottom of the liner itself, while the sole of most liners represents your grandmother’s favorite pair of slippers. I had never noticed the difference before.

The biggest takeaway? No more foot pain.

I’ve had foot and ankle injuries since I was a child. As a result, I am almost always battling some time of foot fatigue or cramp on the mountain. Over course of several consecutive days in the Solution liner, that went away.

Who is the Remedy Solution Liner for?

  • Anyone looking to extend the life of a beloved boot without upgrading it completely, or wanting to deal with a break-in period.
  • The rider experiencing foot, knee, hip, or lower back pain.
  • A rider who plans to get 25+ days a season on a pair of boots.
  • A rider who spends a lot of time going off of bigger jumps.
  • A rider who wants maximum customization in their boots.
