A Tahoe-area snowboarder is being honored after his sudden death.

Cody Clemente died after a tragic car accident. He competed in the United States of America Snowboard and Freeski Association, otherwise known as the USASA. Clemente competed in the regional, national, futures Tour, and Rev Tour events. His mother Lori, is the co-director of the North Tahoe Series. She released a statement put out by the USASA Monday evening:

“He fought fiercely to stay alive, and the doctors did everything they could,” she wrote. “Cody had a truly unique riding style and brought a bit of flair to each run. As hard as he rode every mountain, he loved his friends and family even harder. Cody knew how to love people. Think of Cody when you are on the snow. Be sure to have fun on all the side hits you can get and tweak out a wicked method in his memory.”

The USASA made its own brief statement as well.

“Over the weekend we lost one of our own. Let’s support those in our community during unimaginable times,” it said. “We are holding the Clemente family closely, and in our thoughts and prayers.”

Clemente was born in 2006, according to his FIS contestant page. He competed nationwide, from Mount Snow in Vermont to Woodward Park City, Mammoth Mountain, and Northstar in California.

“Cody often talked about how fortunate he was to connect with other snowboarders and skiers around the world who shared his passion for riding,” Lori said.

In April 2021, Clemente topped the podium for the 13-14 year old age division in a contest at Northstar. The rider was memorialized in the comments of the post:

“Cody was a great young man, always cracking jokes, riding with passion and friends with all his teammates from the time he was knee-high through to when he towered over most of them,” Brendan Lahiff said in a post. “I can't even imagine the loss. Lori, sending you strength and our prayers to you and your family. Rest in peace Cody and keep shredding for all us up in heaven.”
