An essential member of the snowboarding community has passed away.
Samuel Rowse was a rider, artist, and friend. His life was commemorated by Torment Magazine in an Instagram post on May 22, 2025. The post says he died on May 10, 2025.
“Sammy Rowse would give you the shirt off his back. That’s usually a metaphor, but he would literally take his shirt off and give it to a stranger who said they liked it. Happened multiple times, and it wasn’t an act. If he had something, it was for everyone,” the post said. “His energy and presence were all-time. On a snowboard, he was the best to ride with. No matter the setup, Sammy would try something—didn’t care if it was being filmed.”
As a rider, Rowse was featured in the 2024 Torment Magazine film Screwdriver. He also appeared in Brown Cinema’s Brown, which was released in 2018. On May 20, 2025, Torment posted a story in which Rowse explains how to pull off a Rippey Flip.
As an artist, Rowse’s work was used by some of the biggest board brands in the world. He did the graphics for the Sims Mystery Lunch, Macrodose, and ATV Pro.
Jody Wochniak honored Rowse in a post from the AirTime Podcast’s Instagram account.
“Grateful to have crossed paths with you, Sammy. See you on the other side. Snowboarding has lost so many special people this year, irreplaceable individuals who helped shape the culture we love,” he said. “Their absence makes it more important than ever to recognize how special this community is, and to keep it close.”
“Sammy was one of those people that could walk in a room and be friends with everyone within a few minutes,” rider Sage Kotsenburg said in a comment on the AirTime Podcast’s Instagram post. “Always down for a good laugh."
Our thoughts are with the friends and family of Sammy Rowse. It’s been a tough year for the snowboarding community. Remember to take care of each other.
