Shaun White Teams Up With U.S. Snowboarding At Mount Hood

If you’re hanging around Mount Hood, Oregon this summer, there’s a chance you’ll see halfpipe legend Shaun White.

White will collaborate with U.S. Ski and Snowboard’s Project Gold program at the High Cascade Snowboard Camp and Windells Freeski Camp in June. He’ll join for a day of the weeklong program at Hood’s Wy’East Mountain Academy. It’s the next step of his involvement in High Cascade, as he is already an investor. He grew up attending the camp himself.

The news was first reported by Sports Business Journal . White was a speaker at the SBJ’s 4se event in New York City on May 20-21, 2025. He was joined by former NFLers Michael Strahan, Jason and Deven McCourty, Major League Baseball’s Uzma Rawn Dowler, and more.

The U.S. Ski and Snowboard team’s Project Gold Camps have the goal of bringing together up-and-coming snowboarders and freeskiers for training sessions. These sessions will include access to an Olympic-caliber dry slope and an airbag training system from an Austrian brand called Banger Bags.

The upcoming Winter Olympics in Italy will be the first in which the snowboarding contests won't include Shaun White since his debut in 2006, which also was in Italy. It’s a reality he’s very much aware of. He told USA Today’s Tom Schad in an interview that even though he gets the itch to compete sometimes, he’s never seriously contemplated a comeback similar to ski racer Lindsey Vonn's.

"I’m excited and I'm happy for the next [generation] that’s coming through and what they’re going to do at this next Games," he told USA Today Sports. "But yeah, there will be some part of me that’s a little like 'ugh' − wanting to compete and wanting to ride."

Instead, White has shifted his focus elsewhere in the industry. The Snow League is his new professional halfpipe league, which made its debut March 7, 2025 at Buttermilk in Aspen. The league features a $1.6 million prize pool, and features season-long points standings, similar to NASCAR or golf.

The league already has achieved things other action sports leagues have struggled to in the past. First was a broadcast deal with NBC Sports, which allowed the contests to air live on the Peacock streaming service, and on TV at a later date.

An all star broadcasting team that included Chris Grenier, Todd Richards, Jac Collinsworth, and Tina Dixon came next. That broadcast acumen also allowed for a creation of snowboarding’s own docuseries, similar to Drive to Survive or Full Swing on Netflix.
