Snowboarder Dies at Vancouver Ski Resort

A snowboarder in Canada has been found dead.

The 21-year-old rider was reported missing from the Cypress Mountain Resort. He was snowboarding with friends, and had been last seen in-bounds. He was reported missing around 10:45 p.m. on Friday.

The man was from Richmond. Ski patrol and North Shore Rescue teamed up for a search. They later found him in an agully adjacent to Collins Run. That trail is a beginner run that leads back to the Lions Express chairlift, the CBC reported.

Cypress is the biggest ski area in Vancouver. It opened for the season on November 22, ahead of its neighbors Mt. Seymour and Grouse Mountain.

Cypress Mountain hosted all three snowboarding events - halfpipe, parallel giant slalom, and snowboard cross - in the 2010 Winter Olympics. The ski area is about a 30-minute drive from downtown Vancouver, and is one of the most popular ski areas in the province of British Columbia.
