In 2024, the Arizona Coyotes announced that they would move the team to Salt Lake City, Utah. What would soon become known as the Utah Mammoth became just the second top-level professional sports team to operate out of the state, and made the NHL playoffs in just their second season.
Utah will get another professional sports franchise to support this winter. The X Games has announced that Park City is the recipient of a Winter X Games League club.
The news was announced on June 11, 2026 in a press release announcing that private equity investor Allen Thorpe has purchased both XC Park City and XC Los Angeles through the firm Pipedream Capital. Thorpe is a native Californian who has lived in Park City for the last 20 years.
“X Games has an incredible brand at the intersection of sport, culture, entertainment, and youth engagement,” Thorpe said in a press release. “The MoonPay X Games League creates an entirely new category of sports ownership."
"I’m especially excited to build championship organizations in both Los Angeles and Park City.”
With the announcement of XC Park City, we now know the geographic location of two of the four clubs. X Games Club New York was named as one of the four teams earlier this summer.
“The investment in two X Games Clubs is a powerful validation of the vision we have for the future of action sports,” X Games CEO Jeremy Bloom said in a press release. “We’re creating permanent teams, season-long storylines, stronger opportunities for athletes, and deeper connections with fans. Allen immediately understood that opportunity, and we’re thrilled to welcome him to the X Games family.”
The MoonPay X Games League Winter Draft was announced last month. It will take place on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at Cosm Los Angeles. Some of the world’s best skiers and snowboarders will be drafted to four regionally based X Games clubs to compete in the three-stop winter season.
The draft will be held at Cosm Los Angeles, which is located in Inglewood, just a half-mile from SoFi Stadium. It will be streamed on ESPN+/ ESPN App, Roku Sports Channel, and the X Games channel on YouTube. Over 180 skiers and riders have opted into the draft. A total of 40 will be drafted. So far, Jake Pates, Kaishu Hirano, Yuto Totsuka, Halldor Helgason, Rene Rinnekangas, Shuichiro Shigeno, Chloe Kim, Jamie Anderson, Mark McMorris, and Jamie Anderson are among those riders.
The first summer stop of the X Games League kicks off later this month in Sacramento.
