This summer has already been the summer of midfield signings, with Sandro Tonali looking set to be the next star to change club.
Manchester City have already agreed terms with Elliot Anderson to see him join from Nottingham Forest while Mateus Fernandes now looks set to join Spurs.
Unfortunately for United these are already two targets they have missed out on by refusing to outbid their Premier League rivals.
Now, the same looks to be set for their pursuit of Sandro Tonali.
The Italy international emerged as a front-runner to move to Old Trafford as United backed away from Anderson with City taking charge of the race.
However, The Red Devils ultimately made a cheaper £35 million move for Atalanta’s Ederson first instead of the £80 million fee for Tonali.
As such Manchester United left the door open and Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have all started looking to the midfield star.
Now, Gianluca Di Marzio has reported that Tottenham Hotspur have launched a bid for Tonali of just over £85 million (€100 million) for the Newcastle star.
This is understood to be Spurs’ third bid, after two of £75 million (€87.3 million) have already been rejected. Now, the London-based side have to wait for a response yet again.
With United refusing to get into a bidding war for Mateus Fernandes, despite regarding the West Ham star highly, it’s unlikely that The Red Devils will enter the fight against Spurs.
Already Manchester City are understood to have the funds to sign Tonali alongside Elliot Anderson, a plan they’ve had now for some time.
As such, United are now expected to look elsewhere with Bournemouth’s Alex Scott considered a strong candidate to come in alongside Kobbie Mainoo in the middle of the pitch.
