This summer, plenty of clubs both in the Premier League and Europe are going to chase the signature of West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes.
The 21-year-old missed out on a spot alongside his namesake and Manchester United skipper, Bruno, in Portugal’s World Cup squad, and will be even more eager to reach the top of his game to pin down a spot in his nation’s setup.
In a season where Mateus Fernandes earned himself a nomination for Premier League Young Player of the Season, his club were relegated to the Championship. His next steps now appear to be elsewhere, despite the Hammers setting a hefty £80m price tag to his name.
Club insider, exWHUEmployee, has provided a new transfer update through the West Ham Way website, and it appears the Red Devils are set to have plenty of company in the market.
The insider told the site, “In fact it is thought he has interest from a whole host of top European teams. Inter Milan, Napoli, Juventus, Manchester United, Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain, Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid, Chelsea, and Aston Villa are all clubs that are credited with having interest.
“This puts West Ham in a good position. Whilst it is a huge disappointment to obviously lose a player of this quality it is inevitable following our disastrous season. What works well for us is the sheer number of clubs that are interested. This can be used to create a bidding war.“
The London club are clearly in a great place with any sale of Fernandes that could take place. Ten clubs being interested in the Portuguese starlet’s signature will only give them more comfort in overseeing a transfer.
Manchester United have nearly wrapped up the deal for Brazilian midfielder Ederson. Now, they must choose correctly in selecting their next big midfield signing. Fernandes is certainly a great player, but it’s a deal that must only be done if all the stars align.
