Tottenham Hotspur target Yoane Wissa subjected to fresh interest from Newcastle United

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move to bring Yoane Wissa to Hotspur Way alongside Premier League rivals Newcastle United, with the latter said to be leading the three-horse race for his signature this summer, with Nottingham Forest also interested. And now with one bid already rejected by the Bees from Newcastle for his signatures, the DR Congo international has reportedly left Brentford’s pre-season training camp in Portugal as interest continues to mount in his services.

The French-born forward is becoming increasingly unsettled with growing speculation about his future away from Gtech Community Stadium as the North Londoners and Newcastle continue to accelerate their pursuit for the 28-year-old forward’s signatures, per BBC’s Sami Mokbel.

Wissa is to held talks with Brentford director of football

Wissa had a wonderful 2024/25 season playing under Thomas Frank, who has now taken over the reins at N17, as the 28-year-old netted 19 goals in 35 Premier League appearances, and that has naturally got the clubs interested in getting him this season. But let’s consider a fact about Brentford: they don’t want to sell him given that they have already lost Thomas Frank to Tottenham alongside their skipper, Christian Norgaard, who moves to Arsenal, while Bryan Mbeumo has taken up an opportunity to join Manchester United this summer.

But this hasn’t stopped Newcastle and Tottenham from pushing, and Mokbel insists that Wissa is now set to hold talks with Brentford director of football Phil Giles after stepping away from the training camp.

Frank can still be the deciding factor

Newcastle United are believed to have agreed on personal terms with Wissa after they missed out on signing Hugo Ekitike, who is closing in on a move to Liverpool, but at the moment Tottenham are still firmly in play for his signature, with the Lilywhites head coach Thomas Frank having the potential to be the deciding factor. At the moment it is thought that Wissa would prefer a reunion with his former boss at Hotspur Way over a switch to St James’ Park, but while the North Londoners are understood to have no issues agreeing to personal terms, the chiefs at N17 are not ready to meet Brentford’s valuation, which is believed to be in excess of £50m.

The Lilywhites are said to be looking to bring in attacking reinforcements this summer with Richarlison expected to leave, and given that Wissa has the potential to fit in seamlessly under Frank’s system, it would be wise for the North Londoners to opt for him.

But for Tottenham, given the fact that the Bees are looking to keep hold of him, complemented by multiple clubs in the race to sign him, Levy should also start considering alternatives to Wissa if his move doesn’t materialise for whatever reason.
