2026 Manchester derby officially rescheduled

Manchester United vs Manchester City is one of the biggest fixtures on the English football calendar, and the rivalry is back in focus ahead of this weekend.

Michael Carrick’s side host their neighbours on Sunday with pressure already building after an inconsistent opening to the 2026/27 Premier League campaign.

United have won just one of their opening three league matches, collecting four points.

The season began with a disappointing 2-0 defeat away to newly-promoted Hull City before a much-needed response arrived at Old Trafford.

Ipswich Town were beaten 5-2 as United’s attack clicked into gear, but momentum was halted again at Everton.

Benjamin Sesko appeared to have snatched victory with an 88th-minute header, only for Everton to score a dramatic late equaliser in a 2-2 draw.

Before attention can fully turn towards the derby, United welcome Sabah to Old Trafford on Thursday for their first Champions League fixture since 2023.

City will then provide a far tougher test.

They have made a perfect start to the Premier League season, winning each of their opening three matches after strengthening their squad again over the summer.

United can at least take confidence from the previous Manchester derby.

Carrick’s first match after returning as United manager ended in a memorable 2-0 victory over City at Old Trafford.

Bryan Mbeumo opened the scoring before Patrick Dorgu added the second, with United producing one of their most complete performances of the campaign.

Another Manchester derby has now officially been rescheduled, although this particular change concerns Manchester United’s women’s team.

United confirmed on their official website that their Women’s Super League meeting with Manchester City on Sunday, October 25 will now kick off at 18:00 GMT.

The fixture will also be shown live on Sky Sports after being selected for broadcast.

United also confirmed changes to several other October fixtures, including the home meeting with Liverpool and the trip to Everton.

Eva Olid’s side will host City at the Progress With Unity Stadium, adding another chapter to the cross-city rivalry just weeks after the men meet at Old Trafford.
