Manchester United could now make the move for Senne Lammens

Manchester United endured a disastrous 2024/25 season. Finishing 15th in the Premier League and losing to Spurs in the Europa League final were huge setbacks. The arrival of Ruben Amorim did little to turn things around, and missing out on European competitions for the upcoming season left a deep scar in the club’s history. These results serve as a stark reminder that years of instability have weakened the team’s direction.

The ongoing summer transfer window, however, has brought a sense of optimism to the fans. High-profile arrivals such as Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, along with young talent Diogo Leon, have injected fresh hope. The reported signing of Benjamin Sesko is another indication that the club is working to address Rasmus Hojlund’s poor finishing last season. Yet, the transfer story at Old Trafford feels far from complete.

Eyes on the goalkeeper and the midfield

According to Fabrizio Romano via Give Me Sport, United are now targeting Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp. The report states that Lammens is on the shortlist, particularly after Andre Onana’s costly errors last season. United are also keeping tabs on Brighton’s Carlos Baleba, who impressed in the Premier League last year, though his inflated price has shifted attention towards the Belgian. Earlier, we reported interest in the 23-year-old alongside Emiliano Martinez.

Lammens’ biggest strengths lie in his reflexes and shot-stopping. His height makes him dominant in the air and reliable in the penalty area. At just 22, his age is another advantage, offering the potential for long-term service to the club.

“Now focus is on midfielder. Goalkeeper can be a possibility, Lammens from Antwerp remains a name on the list.”

Why Lammens matters – Our View

In our view, signing Lammens would be a smart move for United. Onana is talented, but his confidence took a major hit last season. Bringing in another goalkeeper would not only create healthy competition but also inject fresh energy into the dressing room. Lammens’ straightforward, composed style could be invaluable under the pressure of the Premier League.

United now need players who can remain calm in high-pressure situations — a trait Lammens clearly possesses. Securing his signature could stabilise the goalkeeper position and help push the club back into contention for the top spots. Old Trafford needs new faces that inspire hope, and Lammens certainly fits that profile.
