Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero has been linked with a move away from the club at the end of the season, and Marc Guehi could replace him.

The South American has been linked with top clubs like Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid. Paul Robinson believes that it is looking very likely that Romero will move on in the summer, and he has tipped the Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi to be at the top of the list as Tottenham look for a replacement.

The former Tottenham goalkeeper added that Spurs might need to invest in two quality central defenders this summer. It will be interesting to see how the situation develops.

He said to Tottenham News: “With Romero leaving, it’s looking more and more likely day by day that he’s going to move on. If Romero does go, they’re going to need two more, in my opinion.”

Marc Guehi would be a superb addition

Romero has been exceptional for the club since joining them, and his departure will be a blow for Tottenham. However, Guehi has proven himself to be a reliable performer in the Premier League, and there is no doubt that he could help Tottenham improve at the back.

It remains to be seen whether Tottenham can convince the 24-year-old England International to join the club. He has proven himself at Crystal Palace, and he will want to take on a new challenge. Tottenham have been tracking him for months.

Can Tottenham convince him?

Meanwhile, Robinson believes that Spurs might need to secure European qualification in order to attract the player.

He added: “Guehi would be top of the list if they can beat anyone else to his signature. But without Champions League football, finishing 16th, potentially 17th in the Premier League, is that an attractive proposition? Or can Newcastle offer Champions League football and a better salary? And that’s where Tottenham are at the moment. There’s so much hanging on their Europa League success.“

He is on the radar of multiple clubs and he might want to join a team fighting in Europe. Tottenham will need to win the UEFA Europa League to secure Champions League qualification for the next season. It remains to be seen whether they can win the tournament and convince top players like Guehi to join the club.
