Manchester United have agreed on the framework of a deal for Ipswich Town attacker Liam Delap during the summer window. Ipswich are waiting for Delap to finalise his transfer decision amid interest from several top Premier League clubs, including Chelsea.

The Red Devils have endured a horrible season, finishing 16th in the Premier League and losing the Europa League final. United are planning a squad overhaul during the summer to back Ruben Amorim, signing players who will suit his style.

However, they have prioritised the attacking department and want deals to strengthen that position by using their limited transfer budget. Man United’s current number nine options, Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee, have failed to establish themselves as trustworthy first-team starters.

Both players have struggled with overall influence and also contribution with goals and assists, since the start of the season. During his tenure at Sporting CP, Amorim depended heavily on Viktor Gyokeres, who acted as his regular starting number nine.

The Portuguese boss needs a player of a similar profile to do the job for him at United next season. According to ESPN, United have agreed to the framework of a deal for Deal with Ipswich and await his decision.

United are ready to meet the £30 million ($40.6m) release clause that Ipswich have set for their prolific number nine. With Chelsea and several other Premier League clubs wanting the services of Delap, United have to move fast this summer.

The 22-year-old has enjoyed a prolific form this season, and his age would help Amorim integrate him into the team. Furthermore, the proven Premier League experience negates the fear of a repeat of Hojlund and Zirkzee disappointment for Man United.

The 22-year-old attacker made 40 appearances in all competitions for Ipswich last season, scoring 12 goals and providing two assists. United believe that Delap’s contribution will only improve among more creative players compared to the ones at Ipswich.
