5 Biggest Transfer Losses in the Premier League

In the summer transfer window, Premier League teams look to strengthen their squads. Of course, however, it doesn’t always work out like that.

As always, key players have left their old clubs for pastures new this summer. Today, we’ll look at five of the most damaging transfer losses in the 2026 summer window.

We’ll be looking at players who have left clubs such as Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea in this list. Can you guess who they are?

Mohamed Salah – Liverpool

Losing a club icon is never easy, even when they’re coming towards the end of their respective careers, but club icons don’t come much bigger than Mohamed Salah at Liverpool.

The dynamo behind one of their most successful periods across their rich history, losing him was a bitter blow that caused waves throughout the fanbase.

Yes, Salah has shown signs of decline in the previous season and it was probably for the best, but his departure was nonetheless a heartbreaking moment for Reds fans.

Bernardo SilvaManchester City

Bernardo Silva’s move away from Manchester City was in the same vein as Salah’s from Liverpool. As City’s captain, not only have they lost out on his leadership, they’re also bereft of a beloved talisman who spent nine incredibly successful years at the Etihad Stadium.

Unlike Salah, Silva also had a brilliant campaign last season – he wasn’t included in the official Premier League team of the year for nothing.

Furthermore, an extremely adaptable footballer capable of playing just about anywhere, Silva’s swiss-army-knife qualities will also be greatly missed by the City faithful.

Marc Cucurella – Chelsea

Chelsea received an appropriately large sum of money when Marc Cucurella left the club to join Real Madrid, totaling £51.8 million, but his energetic presence down the left will be sorely missed.

An excellent full-back from a defensive and attacking point of view, he is arguably the best left-back in the world right now. To that end, he’s irreplaceable.

When Chelsea failed to qualify for European football at the end of last season, it was inevitable that some of their best players would leave, but Cucurella is probably the last player they wanted to see departing Stamford Bridge.

Marcos Senesi – Bournemouth

Marcos Senesi’s departure from Bournemouth is a cautionary tale as old as time – always make sure your best players are tied down with contracts before it’s too late.

Signed by Tottenham Hotspur on a free transfer, losing him was undoubtedly a blow. Yes, the Cherries have taken action to replace him by signing Antonio Silva, but one cannot escape the feeling that this could’ve been avoided with better forward planning.

At 29 years of age, Senesi is in his prime. Tottenham will get to make the most of his best years in theory, while Bournemouth got nothing in return.

Harry Wilson – Fulham

Bournemouth losing Senesi was a damaging blow – Harry Wilson’s departure from Fulham, on the other hand, could quite possibly prove to be crippling to the cottagers.

Scoring ten goals and racking up seven assists last season, Wilson wasn’t just their best player – he was their primary source of both goals and creativity.

Not only did they lose him on a free, he joined Leeds United, one of Fulham’s mid-table rivals. They have not replaced him yet, either – can they?
