Last season was painful for Manchester United and the fans. Finishing 15th in the Premier League is embarrassing for any big club and history like United. Losing the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur and being out of Europe for the next season altogether made the atmosphere even heavier. Ruben Amorim took over as manager mid-season, but he too could not bring immediate change in the club’s fortunes.
Now this summer, the club have signed big names like Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, as well as adding young Diogo Leon to the team to bolster the squad. Benjamin Sesko is also set to be a new United player, which will provide an edge in the attack. If we talk about the pre-season performance, recently there was a 2-2 draw against Everton in the Premier League Summer Series, in which United won the title, but the real battle is still going on in the transfer market.
As soon as the season ended, it was clear that United would have to part ways with many players. Efforts are on to sell Antony, but the real big decision revolves around Alejandro Garnacho. Ruben Amorim had already told him to find a new club before the end of the season.
His exclusion from the pre-season tour was also clear – his future at United was over. According to David Ornstein‘s report, Chelsea have long been interested in Garnacho. The 21-year-old himself sees Stamford Bridge as his next destination and is not considering any other options. United value him at £70m, but the Blues want to pay less, and it’s understandable as the Red Devils have to sell him, but the Blues are taking concrete steps to sign the Argentine winger.
Talking about his traits, Garnacho’s pace, dribbling ability and ability to make a difference in the final third from nothing make him an exciting winger. He is young, but his mindset and confidence make him look ready for the big stage. The Argentine’s presence in Chelsea’s attack will not allow opposition defences to play freely.
It may be hard for United to accept the reality of having to sell Garnacho given he was the one for the future in this historic club, but it is the most sensible move at this point. If Chelsea don’t pay £70m and want to crack the deal for a lesser amount, United should and will have to agree. The club know that keeping Garnacho now would only make the situation worse, when Amorim does not want any more, and he is your biggest profit-making player this summer. Not only would this deal provide financial relief, but Amorim would also be able to shape the squad according to his plans.
This move is also perfect for Garnacho. Chelsea can give him the chance to play consistently, which is not possible at United at the moment. A fresh start at Stamford Bridge could energise his career. Both Old Trafford and Garnacho need to move forward at the moment, and this transfer would be the first step in that direction. We feel like it will be cracked by the time this transfer window ends.
