Tottenham have finally upped their ante in the transfer market as they look to bolster the squad for the upcoming season. The Lilywhites are aiming to compete hard on all four fronts next season under Thomas Frank. And to achieve that, the North London club must first focus on signing quality players that would be ready to fight hard week in week out.
Thomas Frank relies heavily on the midfield for build-up play, as well as, for dispossessing the opponent while being on the backfoot. The Danish tactician had Christian Norgaard under his wing at Brentford that did this job quite well for several years. And now, the newly appointed Spurs manager will hope that a player of similar calibre is bought by Daniel Levy for next season.
The Lilywhites already have Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma in their ranks that could operate in the number six position. But it is believed that Thomas Frank prefers signing a new player instead that could be an upgrade on the duo. Bissouma is also linked with a summer exit, which could force Levy to make a move for a new replacement in the coming weeks.
Tottenham are looking to bolster their midfield for the new season, and have moved quickly to strike a deal for Bayern Munich midfielder Joao Palhinha. It was reported earlier that the Lilywhites agreed a loan deal to sign the Portuguese star, with an option to convert the loan into a permanent deal next summer for €30m. The salary is also said to be covered by the North London club.
Now, John Wenham has given his verdict on Spurs signing Palhinha for the upcoming season. Speaking to Tottenham News, Wenham said,
“I could certainly see why Tottenham’s interest would be genuine, because Palhinha was phenomenal at Fulham. People are rewriting history, saying he’s old and past it. He was fantastic for Fulham, which is why Bayern Munich forked out the big bucks to sign him. He would instantly improve us. He’s got leadership skills, he’s got experience, and he’s got experience playing at the top level.”

The Lilywhite Rose owner added,
“So for me, it would be a no-brainer, especially at that pricing is really good value. I think sometimes people have to park their feelings about a player’s age. So, I think Palhinha would be a fantastic signing. He’d slot straight into our team in a holding midfield role. And he’s the exact sort of character I think Tottenham are missing at the moment.”
John Wenham pointed out that Joao Palhinha was ‘fantastic’ for Fulham and there is a strong reason why Bayern Munich opted to sign him. The Lilywhite Rose owner believes that Palhinha would instantly improve the team due to his leadership skills and experience of playing at the highest level. Wenham also adds that the Portugal international would get in the starting eleven instantly and would be a perfect player to play under Thomas Frank.
Fans will be happy to see that Daniel Levy is opting to back Thomas Frank in the transfer market. With the new season approaching quickly, the Danish tactician needs to sort out his squad and integrate the new players into the squad instantly. Signing Palhinha would mean that the Lilywhites would have surety in the heart of the midfield, as the 30-year-old has time and again showed he can be relied upon in the Premier League.
