'About to Cook United Next' - Fans Heap Praise on Sunderland Star After Nottingham Forest Win

Sunderland leaped to fifth place in the Premier League table with a 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

With 11 points in six games, Regis Le Bris’s men are ahead of the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City.

When the Black Cats returned to top-flight football after eight years, not many expected to see them in the upper half of the points table. However, some steal deals and some talent acquisitions later, the club has exceeded expectations. The fans believe one man is running the show like never before.

Star midfielder hailed as greatest Sunderland player ever

Sunderland travelled to the City Ground to face Nottingham Forest as an underdog. It was expected, considering Forest was just one point away from Champions League qualification while the Black Cats were not even in top-flight football.

But Granit Xhaka combined with Omar Alderete at the 38-minute mark and flipped the script. The Swiss international’s pass was slotted in by the former Getafe defender to put Sunderland in front, who managed to keep the lead intact for the rest of the game.

Le Bris’ team returned to the Stadium of Light with all three points. In what seemed to be a tough stretch for Sunderland, the team has earned four points out of a possible six.

Dean Hudson, a former Durham City AFC goalkeeper, shared his take on Xhaka after Sunderland climbed to fifth spot in the Premier League.

“I’m 35 now and have been watching @SunderlandAFC since I was about 8 years old, genuinely the think Granit Xhaka is the best player to have played for the club in my lifetime,” Hudson wrote.

The tweet was reshared by ESPN UK with the caption: “33-year-old Granit Xhaka changing lives.”

Fans flocked to the comment section to share their reactions to the bold statement.

“About to cook United next” One fan wrote.

“He was massively underrated and profiled at Arsenal. An exceptional player and a natural leader,” said another.

“He’s incredibly goated,” a fan commented.

“He won MOTM against prime (N'Golo) Kante and (Paul) Pogba, very underrated by many other fans,” one user pointed out.

Some fans slammed the claim with comments like:

“Jermaine Defoe plays golf,” a comment read.

“Overreacting lol Kevin Phillips must play hockey,” a fan said

“Lord Bendtner?” Another added.

Xhaka has assisted thrice in six games this season, and his assists have always been crucial for securing the points. His first assist came against Brentford in a 2-1 victory.

He put one on a plate against Aston Villa to keep Sunderland’s unbeaten streak at home alive. The midfielder also assisted the sole goal in the Forest vs. Sunderland fixture to help the Black Cats clinch all three points.
