Paris Saint-Germain have gone through several club executives during the Qatar Sports Investment era. Nonetheless, one AC Milan legend is grateful he didn’t land the job with the French giants.

In a candid interview with Radio Série A, Paolo Maldini revealed that he had the opportunity to become a sporting director at PSG before his return to AC Milan in 2018.

Reflecting on the years that followed, he expressed gratitude for the path he chose, a decision that was undoubtedly for the best.

“I never said no to PSG,” Maldini told the Italian media outlet (h/t Le10Sport). “Before returning to Milan (in 2018, as Leonardo’s assistant, editor’s note), I went to Paris three times and gave my availability, then it didn’t happen.

“Thinking about it now, it was a good thing (not to sign for PSG). I was going to join a club that was evolving, in a country that I didn’t know, with a language that I didn’t know.”

The Parisians have whiffed on executives in the past, the most recent example being Leonardo’s second stint with the club. Nonetheless, with Luis Campos at the helm, PSG have an executive that many trust, especially now in this post-Kylian Mbappé era.

It will be interesting to see if the Portuguese executive can build a squad that can challenge for the UEFA Champions League next season, especially now that the team does not have a true superstar.
