Manchester United’s qualification for the UEFA Champions League reaps more than just sporting benefits.
Financially, the club is better off in Europe’s biggest competition, which the Red Devils have officially confirmed their place in for 2026/27 following a 3-2 win over Liverpool.
One new inflow of cash they are set to receive next season is from kit supplier Adidas, who already pay United £80m a season for wearing the kit in the Premier League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup.
Qualification for the Champions League means the club will earn an additional £10m from Adidas in the 2026/27 season, according to Łukasz Bączek on X.
Manchester United’s revenue from key sponsors will be £160m this season, compared to Liverpool’s £150m, and Manchester United earn £15m more on their kit deal than their rivals, Bączek continued in his post.
The Red Devils signed a £900m deal with Adidas in 2023, but successive misses on Champions League places have meant the deal’s value to Manchester United has decreased.
The latest qualification for the Champions League boosts that deal once again, and it’s an extra £10m alongside other financial incentives like European television money that Manchester United will receive in 2026/27.
While Sir Jim Ratcliffe has tried various measures to cut costs at Manchester United, achieving on the sporting side is always the easiest way to improve income.
For United to keep growing commercially, therefore allowing them to spend more, consistently qualifying for the UEFA Champions League will be key.
With transfer target Elliot Anderson being valued by a larger value than Manchester United’s yearly kit deal is, elite football is becoming increasingly harder to astutely succeed in for the biggest clubs.
This summer will be an interesting one, as to how far Manchester United’s pockets allow them to go in spending on signings.
