Tottenham earned a credible 3-2 win over Atletico Madrid at home.

Tottenham Hotspur bagged their first win under interim boss Igor Tudor, beating Atletico Madrid 3-2 at home in the second leg of the Champions League last-16 tie, but losing 5-7 on aggregate.

Spurs knew they faced a tall order after their disastrous first-leg tie last week, in which Atletico Madrid ran out 5-2 winners. The damage was done in the first leg in Madrid, where Igor Tudor made some questionable calls and paid a high price. Thus, beating Diego Simeone’s side at home was not enough to go through to the Champions League quarter-finals.

However, there were real positives to take from the performance on Wednesday evening. A brace by Xavi Simons after Randal Kolo Muani’s 30th-minute opener helped Spurs clinch a first home victory since January 20 and end an eight-match winless streak. The 3-2 win over Atletico Madrid clawed back pride and restored more belief in the players ahead of a crucial run-in.

Igor Tudor reacts to Tottenham beating Atletico Madrid in the second leg

Tottenham bowed out of the Champions League after losing 7-5 on aggregate to Atletico Madrid. It marked the end of the road in Europe for the Lilywhites, but at least they went out with heads held high.

Igor Tudor was left with mixed emotions after his team’s elimination from the Champions League. When asked about his reaction to the performance and result, the under-pressure Croatian tactician said in his post-match press conference (h/t Football London):

“It’s nice, the sensation, the feelings are mixed. We’re out but one very good team on the pitch, one very good performance of the players and energy. It was really nice that the fans recognised that the team did everything they could do. They were with us from the start, and I thank them for that.”

Let’s build this performance against Nottingham Forest

Tottenham have now produced back-to-back solid performances after losing their opening four games under Tudor. Credit to our boys for fighting with everything and getting the win on the night, boosting their confidence levels further.

The Lilywhites are eliminated from Europe, so now they have to ensure they stay in the Premier League. Some big games are coming up, starting with a crucial six-pointer against Nottingham Forest at home on Sunday. Tudor’s side will now go into this game with huge belief and energy, and a win over Nottingham Forest would give them breathing space in the relegation battle.

Time for our boys to build on the midweek result and end the winless league run in 2026 on Sunday!
