‘Agreed deal’ – Atletico Madrid sell struggling defender to La Liga side for nearly nothing

Atletico Madrid are third in La Liga, and while few are taking them seriously as title contenders, they are in the conversation and are a key injury to Barcelona or an impending implosion from Real Madrid away from being in the thick of it.

For the most part since their Luis Suarez fueled 2020/21 triumph, Atleti have been just on the outside looking in from the main title contenders in Spain, but, lately, they have been ramping up their investment in the transfer market.

As such, Atletico are having to sell off a lot of player who are underperforming or no longer have roles in the squad after all the transfers, and one of those players is wide man Javi Galan, who was a great fullback in La Liga for Celta Vigo before playing a useful role for Atleti the last couple of seasons.

But this season, Galan has started just one La Liga match for Atletico Madrid, and when he has played, the 31 year old has looked like he is nowhere near the Atleti level.

Therefore, it comes as no surprise that Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Altetico Madrid have agreed to sell Javi Galan to another quality club in La Liga in Osasuna, sending him off for a meager 500,000 euros.

It’s a crazy low transfer fee for Galan, given he was a wonderful La Liga left back/left midfielder at a similar level club in Celta Vigo, this looks like a total steal for the men in Pamplona.

But Atleti can make more money than that depending on how Galan does. For every season he is at Osasuna, Fab reports that Atleti will get an additional 500,000 euros.

They would have gotten nothing for Galan anyway and were not using him, so it works for them. Meanwhile, for Osasuna, if Galan is good enough to play, 500,000 per season is very worth it, too.
