Ajax agree to sign former Manchester United midfielder

Some players are good enough to walk from club to club and remain with an abundance of suitors.

It’s something that goes especially for many former and current Manchester United players – professionals with the ability to compete at the top level.

For former Red Devils midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, the same applies.

Earlier in the day, Amrabat had his contract terminated at Turkish side Fenerbahce, despite two years remaining on his deal.

Hours later, Fabrizio Romano has reported that the 30-year-old has verbally agreed to join Dutch side Ajax.

The transfer expert has revealed on X that Amrabat has agreed contract terms with the Eredivisie side, who is wanted by technical director Jordi Cruyff.

It’s an intriguing move for the Moroccan, who spent a season-long period at Manchester United during the 2023/24 season.

Since departing and returning to Fiorentina, Amrabat made his intentions clear with the Serie A side and exited for Fenerbahce.

One loan at Real Betis hinted that Amrabat could sign for the LaLiga club after having his contract terminated in Turkey, but his next destination is North in the Netherlands.

Manchester United have made midfielder signings of their own this summer, and shows they’ve come a long way since the patch-up job of a transfer Amrabat was for them.

With Carlos Baleba, Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos at the heart of their side along with Kobbie Mainoo, success is surely not too far away now.

For Amrabat, he’ll be targeting trophies at the illustrious club that is Ajax, and take on Erik ten Hag’s Twente.
