Liverpool have had a whirlwind start to the summer transfer window, moving with urgency and securing signings in a fashion that has been missing for the past few years. Arne Slot & co. wasted no time in bringing in the likes of Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez and Florian Wirtz to bolster the squad.

Incidentally, they also have secured some outgoings in the form of Trent Alexander-Arnold, who left to join Real Madrid and the talented Jarrel Quansah, who has been sold to German club Bayer Leverkusen. It is worth noting that the Reds have retained a buy-back clause for the player.

One other player that Liverpool seem willing to let go this summer is talented striker Darwin Nunez. The Uruguayan, despite being a fan favourite at Anfield, has failed to convince Arne Slot of a regular starting berth, with the Dutch tactician preferring to start Luis Diaz as a number nine ahead of him last season.

Al-Hilal and Simone Inzaghi want Darwin Nunez

Now, as per Al Riyadiyah (h/t Liverpool Echo), Saudi club Al-Hilal have opened the door to sign the Uruguayan striker from Liverpool at the request of newly appointed manager Simone Inzaghi. The Italian tactician has worked with some excellent strikers at Inter Milan and looks keen on continuing the same in the SPL.

Napoli are another club interested in signing Nunez with Antonio Conte keen on the player, but the Italian giants are yet to make a concrete effort to convince Liverpool to sell him. The Reds cannot afford to wait forever as they need to get on with their squad planning.

Replacing Nunez is a task

With Diogo Jota not around, should Liverpool sell Nunez, replacing him becomes a major task ahead of the new season. Arne Slot cannot afford to go into the 2025/26 season with Luis Diaz and Federico Chiesa as their number nine options and there surely will be a succession plan in place. Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike have been mentioned as potential replacements.

Darwin Nunez came to Liverpool with a lot of expectation due to his performances for Benfica and the price the Reds paid to bring him to England. However, despite some crucial goals over the course of three seasons, this is one of those rare deals that the Merseyside club got wrong in recent times.

It remains to be seen if Al-Hilal manage to come up with an offer that Liverpool deem sufficient to sell Darwin Nunez. If that happens, it will also create intrigue on who they are likely to go for as their number nine and let’s wait and see how it plays out.
