Former Newcastle boss Alan Pardew makes a telling revelation about Tottenham Hotspur’s transfer business in January.

Tottenham Hotspur’s attack has been a particular cause of concern under Thomas Frank this season. The north Londoners have struggled to create chances and pose a consistent goal threat, prompting the club to invest further in the squad for the second half of the campaign.

Persistent issues on the left wing have continued to hamper Tottenham’s attack. The exit of Son Heung-min in the summer left a big hole in the squad, and failing to address it has come back to bite Thomas Frank. None of Wilson Odobert, Brennan Johnson or Mathys Tel have managed to make the left-wing spot their own.

Considering how heavily the Danish tactician depends on his wide players to get in 1v1 situations with the opposition full-backs, create chances and score goals, signing a new left winger has become a top priority for Spurs heading into the January transfer window.

Alan Pardew feels Daniel Levy’s departure should bode well for Tottenham in the transfer market

Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo has been heavily linked with a move to Spurs. The 25-year-old has been in sensational form this season, scoring eight goals and supplying three assists in the Premier League to date. However, the Ghana international’s performances have also caught the attention of Tottenham’s Premier League rivals.

Yet, talkSPORT pundit Alan Pardew feels Tottenham could expect “good news” in the winter window.

This is partly linked with Daniel Levy, who abruptly resigned from the executive chairman’s role at the start of September after 25 years. He oversaw several failed transfers at White Hart Lane due to his lackadaisical approach and penny-pinching attitude, leading to fan frustration over the years. Hence, Levy’s exit from the boardroom will be a welcome change for fans.

And Alan Pardew thinks the new regime, headed by CEO Vinai Venkatesham, that has replaced Levy, could make things easier in terms of recruiting players.

Addressing the Semenyo links with Tottenham and other clubs on the talkSPORT show, Pardew said:

“Yeah, all the big clubs are in, there’s no doubt about that, and I can guarantee that for you. The financials for the player are going to be met, no problem. It’s just about where the player would like to play his football. Where his heart is gonna lie.

“Does he want to be the main man at Spurs and be a really big fish in a, let’s be honest, a mid-sized pool? Or does he want to go into a really, really big pool of great players like Man City and fight for his place?

“When you look at his development and the ages that he’s at I hope that he goes to somewhere where he’s gonna definitely play. I think Spurs would be a good venue for him.

“And I understand, I don’t understand what their offer is to Semenyo, but I do know from a couple of agents that I spoke to that Spurs are looking to buy, and they’ve moved some restrictions that they’ve had in the past, they’ve gone away.

“I wouldn’t say Daniel Levy, I’m saying a couple of sort of sticking points with Daniel in terms of getting the deal over the line, and they’ve gone out the window now, agent payments and structuring here, there and everywhere.

“So, I think there’s some good news to come for Spurs in this window with this new regime.”

What is the latest on Semenyo to Tottenham?

As per Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham are not advancing on the Semenyo deal as things stand. There has been no reason cited for their decision, but Manchester United and Manchester City emerging as favourites in the last few days for Semenyo perhaps has forced Spurs to abandon their pursuit.

The Lilywhites have prepared a list of alternative targets for the Bournemouth ace. One of those is highly-rated Ajax talent Mika Godts, having recently scouted him in Eredivisie games. It will be intriguing to see if our club can poach Godts from Ajax in January.
