Alejandro Balde offer made by Manchester United

Is Alejandro Balde set to become the answer to Manchester United’s left-back prayers?

Speculation has been rife all summer that United are in the market for a new left-back.

While Luke Shaw had a stellar campaign in the 2025/26 season, most believe the 31-year-old England international would struggle to cope with with playing multiple games a week.

Michael Carrick’s men had a light schedule last time out with no European competition and the club exiting both domestic cup competitions at the first hurdle.

With the UEFA Champions League back and the club reinvigorated under Carrick’s leadership, there will certainly be more games on the calendar and it may test the extent to which Shaw can be pushed by playing three times a week.

With news that Manchester United are looking to offload Harry Amass, the Red Devils have been crying out for a long-term solution at left-back.

And it seems that Barcelona may be where they find the answer to those problems.

Mundo Deportivo report that Manchester United have made an offer for Barcelona left-back Alejandro Balde.

The Spanish publication states that Balde trained as usual on Monday, after not featuring in the 5-0 LaLiga victory away to Elche, and is waiting to hold talks with Hansi Flick before making a decision on his future.

Mundo Deportivo also reports that the 22-year-old Spain international has multiple offers on the table, including one from Manchester United, but is waiting to be told directly by Flick whether the club still sees him as part of its plans for the upcoming season.

Alejandro Balde would prefer to stay at Camp Nou and the report states that he’d only leave the club if the coaching staff informed him he was surplus to requirements.

Hansi Flick was asked about Balde’s absence before the Elche game and attributed it to fitness issues.

“I spoke with Alejandro Balde this morning. I told him he’s not at 100%, that it’s best for him to stay home, and that we’ll talk later,” the German told Movistar Plus.

Despite that public declaration, there is still uncertainty surrounding the future of the talented 22-year-old.

Benfica have also submitted an offer for Alejandro Balde and it appears interest in the defender is growing.

With Manchester United seemingly not making much headway in their pursuit of Lewis Hall, it appears that their focus may have shifted to Balde instead.

If United could bring him to the club, he has the potential to establish himself as Old Trafford’s first-choice left-back for years to come.

For now, fans of both clubs will await news of the talks between Hansi Flick and Alejandro Balde, which could ultimately determine the defender’s future.
