Alejandro Garnacho reveals family roots behind Argentina decision

Speaking in an interview reported via Mundo Albiceleste, Garnacho detailed the personal background that influenced his choice.

He said, “Why I chose to play for Argentina? I am born in Spain, but my mother is Argentine. When she was nine years old, the entire family moved to Spain.

“My grandfather worked in Spain, and they stayed there. After that, my mother met my father.”

The explanation highlights how deeply rooted his Argentine identity is, even though he was born and raised in Spain. For Garnacho, the connection goes beyond geography, reflecting family history and heritage.

That emotional link has played a central role in shaping his international allegiance. In situations like these, players often weigh multiple factors, but for Garnacho, the personal connection clearly stood out.

Lionel Messi’s influence played a key role in Alejandro Garnacho’s choice

Beyond family ties, Garnacho also pointed to the environment within the Argentina setup as a major factor in his decision.

Garnacho added, “The reason why is because they gave me confidence from the start, that I was going to be important in the future.

“Messi is also a big part of that, having the chance of playing with him is something you can’t say no to so easily. I know I will do big things for them, it is only a matter of time.”

The mention of Lionel Messi underlines the pull Argentina holds for emerging talents, with the opportunity to share the pitch with one of the greatest players in history proving difficult to ignore.

At the same time, Garnacho’s confidence in his own future suggests he sees himself as part of the next generation tasked with carrying the team forward.

With both belief from the coaching staff and inspiration from established stars, his decision reflects a blend of opportunity, ambition, and long-term vision.
