Alejandro Garnacho Might Go the Jadon Sancho Way

Alejandro Garnacho is still a very young man. At 21, Garnacho has already spent three full seasons with Manchester United. As an academy product of United, the Argentine should ideally be heading towards a long stay at Old Trafford, but it is unlikely to be the case, given the current situation.

Chelsea have already expressed an active interest in Garnacho and the club has also contemplated a swap deal with Manchester United involving the Argentine and Nicolas Jackson. As of now, Garnacho is not training with the rest of the United team, which is not an ideal scenario for a young player.

Alejandro Garnacho Might Be Following the Example of Jadon Sancho

Jadon Sancho failed to make good use of his brief stint with the Red Devils. He had a loan moves to Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea, but even the Royal Blues declined to sign him permanently. Sancho is now a Borussia Dortmund player, but the English winger had to take a pay-cut to sign for the German club.

Garnacho, who has scored 26 goals in 144 matches for the Red Devils so far, has a bright future ahead of him. However, given the 3-4-2-1 formation Ruben Amorim prefers his Manchester United team to play with, Garnacho’s chances of playing for the team remains slim.

The Argentine is more comfortable playing as a left-winger in a 4-3-3, 4-2-3-1 or 3-4-3. His lack of defensive acumen means that he cannot play as a left wing-back in a 3-4-2-1 either. He has been tried as a No. 10 in a 3-4-2-1 at United, but his inability to adjust himself well enough in a central role, which demands him to play short passes more frequently, has made him sort of redundant.

It does not in any way mean that Garnacho cannot alter his playing style somewhat to play alongside the likes of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. However, the signings of Cunha and Mbeumo means that there is no void in United’s attack at the moment for Garnacho to fill in.

Chelsea Have Also Roped in a Number of Attackers

The Royal Blues have already roped in Jamie Gittens and Joao Pedro, both of whom can play as the left-winger. Not to mention that they already have Mykhailo Mudryk in their squad. Hence, Garnacho signing for Chelsea by no means ensures a place in the starting XI for him.

Still, if the Argentine has made up his mind to follow the paths of Marcus Rashford and Sancho out of United, he cannot probably be stopped. He does not quite fit in the scheme of things for Amorim and it seems difficult that things will change for the better anytime soon.

It, therefore, remains to be seen whether Alejandro Garnacho remains at the club the next season.

A move to London is anticipated at the moment and given Chelsea’s tendency to sign youngsters, it seems that they might acquire the Argentine winger as well. However, Garnacho should be willing to invest all his time to improving his game on the pitch at this stage of his career.
