Alejandro Garnacho officially joins Aston Villa

Alejandro Garnacho’s future has finally been decided.

After months of speculation surrounding where the former Manchester United winger would continue his career, the Argentine has now found a new home in the Premier League after a difficult spell away from Old Trafford.

The move also continues Aston Villa’s recent trend of turning to players with Manchester United connections, having already taken Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho on loan over the previous two seasons.

With Youri Tielemans joining Manchester United and Morgan Rogers completing a move to Chelsea this summer, Villa have acted quickly to strengthen their attacking options.

Aston Villa confirm Alejandro Garnacho signing

Aston Villa have now confirmed, via their website, the signing of Alejandro Garnacho from Chelsea.

Villa announced it in a statement saying, “Aston Villa is delighted to announce the signing of Alejandro Garnacho from Chelsea.

“The 22-year-old Argentine international has joined on a season-long loan agreement.”

Unai Emery, reacting to the deal, stated: “We are delighted with Alejandro. He is so talented, young and he showed us his wish to help our project. We are really happy.”

Villa’s move comes after negotiations centred around an initial loan agreement, although Chelsea had been pushing for a permanent element to be included in any deal involving the winger.

The Blues were prepared to sanction Garnacho’s departure for around £42.7 million (€50 million) during the current transfer window.

Before the transfer was finalised, Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso confirmed the club were working alongside Alejandro Garnacho and his representatives to find a solution that suited all parties.

AS Roma had been tracking the former Manchester United winger, while clubs in the Saudi Pro League also expressed interest in bringing him in.

Garnacho has had a frustrating spell at Stamford Bridge following his £40 million departure from Manchester United last summer.

Despite making 43 appearances across all competitions, the Argentina international struggled to nail down a regular starting place.

Across those outings, he averaged 50 minutes per appearance, contributing 8 goals and 4 assists during his debut season.

Villa will now hope the talented winger can rediscover the form that made him one of Manchester United’s brightest young prospects before his move away from Old Trafford.
