Alexander Isak has been rumored to leave Newcastle United this summer as heavy links towards a move to Liverpool continue strong. The Swedish striker did not play in any preseason game wth Newcastle, and reports suggested that Isak refused to play for the club.

Isak was not called up for Newcastle United's Premier League opener against Aston Villa. Eddie Howe has expressed his desire to have Isak in the squad and for the situation to be resolved. Isak has not publicly stated his plans this summer until now.

Isak has been nominated for the 2024/25 Men’s PFA Players' Player of the Year award and was part of the PFA Premier League Team of the Year. The Swedish striker did not attend the event, but he did thank his teammates at Newcastle United for this honor.

Isak published a statement on his Instagram story that thanks his teammates, but he also took the opportunity to reveal extra details in regards to his stance on his future at Newcastle United.

Alexander Isak Announces He Wants to Leave Newcastle United

In his public statement, Isak reveals that he has expressed his desire to Newcastle United a while back, not recently, as many reports have suggested.

He first thanked the club and his teammates for being part of the PFA nominations and being part of the team of the year.

Alexander Isak: "I'm proud to be recognised by my fellow professionals with a place in the PFA Premier League Team of the Season for 2024/25. First and foremost I want to thank my teammates and everyone at Newcastle United who has supported me along the way. I'm not at the ceremony tonight. With everything going on, it didn't feel right to be there."

Isak goes on to describe the rumor surrounding his potential departure from the club. He claims that promises were broken and that he believes change is the best for the situation between the player and the club to be resolved.

Alexander Isak: "I've kept quiet for a long time while others have spoken. That silence has allowed people to push their own version of events, even though they know it doesn't reflect what was really said and agreed behind closed doors. The reality is that promises were made and the club has known my position for a long time. To now act as if these issues are only emerging is misleading. When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can't continue. That's where things are for me right now - and why change is in the best interests of everyone, not just myself."
