Chelsea officially announced the signing of Alyssa Thompson, who played for Angel City in the NWSL. The 20-year-old American forward joins Chelsea's Women's Team for a club record fee of just below 1 million pounds.

Thompson reportedly signed a five-year contract with Chelsea's Women's Team, and the USWNT international joins with high expectations.

Thompson made her professional debut with Angel City two years ago while still being a senior in high school. She made 69 appearances with the Los Angeles club and scored 15 goals.

Thompson is a regular member of the USWNT international team, and her debut with the senior team was against England in 2022 at Wembley Stadium. Since then, she has made 22 appearances with the national team and scored three goals.

Despite Thompson leaving her hometown, the 20-year-old forward reveals why she couldn't miss the opportunity to join Chelsea FC Women over staying another year at Angel City.

Alyssa Thompson on Chelsea Women's Team Move

While Chelsea FC Women announced the signing, Alyssa Thompson wrote an emotional message for Angel City and its fans.

She mentioned that the move to Europe will be something out of her comfort zone, but she is willing to take on the challenge to improve as a player.

Alyssa Thompson: "Transitions are always difficult.  As I push myself outside of my comfort zone in order to be the best player I can be, this opportunity to join Chelsea was something I couldn’t pass up.  It’s going to be new and different, but that’s where growth comes from.
To those who have supported and cheered for me, I am so grateful and I hope you’ll continue on this journey with me. We’re still just at the beginning."

Thompson gave her first words as a new Chelsea FC Women player and mentioned being excited about the opportunity to play for one of the best clubs in the world.

Alyssa Thompson: "Chelsea is such an amazing club, one of the best in the world. Being able to play with players that are the best in the world is an amazing opportunity at such a young age, and I want to learn, grow, and develop a lot. I feel like Chelsea is such an amazing environment to do that in."
