Amad Diallo breaks silence on Ruben Amorim sacking

The sudden dismissal of Ruben Amorim has sent shockwaves through Old Trafford.

Amorim, who was brought in to replace Erik ten Hag in November 2024, departed with a domestic record of eight wins, eight draws, and five losses this season, leaving United currently adrift in 7th place.

Despite an eye-watering £232 million summer spend on high-profile reinforcements like Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Šeško, the relationship was cut short following a public fallout.

Now, as the club hierarchy interviews candidates like Oliver Glasner, Enzo Maresca, and even the familiar face of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the players left behind are beginning to voice the personal toll of the departure.

No one has been more vocal than Amad Diallo, whose development became the defining success story of Amorim’s tenure.

Since making his debut back in February 2021 against Real Sociedad, under Amorim, he finally became a cornerstone of the attack, netting nine goals and seven assists in 34 league appearances—a record surpassed only by captain Bruno Fernandes.

Currently away at the Africa Cup of Nations, the Ivorian winger paused his preparations for Saturday’s quarter-final against Egypt to reflect on the man he viewed as far more than just a head coach, according to the Mirror.

Amad admitted, “It was a tough topic,”. “I was a bit sad, because he’s the coach who gave me more visibility and more opportunities to play for Manchester United.

“I was very sad. I even sent him a message to thank him for everything he did for me – in my life and especially in my career. “I wished him good luck wherever he goes. “It was a difficult moment for me, but I’m really focused on Ivory Coast and on this competition.

“I want to finish well here and try to win this AFCON. “We had a very good relationship, almost like a father-and-son relationship. He understood me, and gave me a lot of advice, and let me play freely. “It’s very unfortunate, but that’s life. You have to adapt, that’s football.”

While United’s leadership navigates the search for their seventh permanent manager since Sir Alex Ferguson, Amad’s heartfelt tribute highlights the human side of a club in constant transition.
