In a season that seems to be going nowhere, talks of potential investment is what is keeping most Tottenham fans going at the moment.

Meanwhile, one of the businesspersons linked most prominently with a Lilywhite investment is keen on returning to the sport.

Amanda Staveley makes Newcastle admission amid Tottenham takeover links

Speaking recently at Bloomberg’s women, money and power event, British businesswoman Amanda Staveley opened up about her exit from Newcastle United amid reports linking her with investment in Tottenham Hotspur.

“We have been working very hard. We miss football. I miss Newcastle a huge amount. We’re in the middle of doing quite a lot of work.

“I can’t say too much, but what I can say is I’m football mad. We have got some of the best football in the Premier League.

“We’re very lucky to have such great clubs but we should also not be complacent about our league position because we attract huge broadcast rights and we must make sure that we attract the next generation of fans.

“Whatever club we go to, what we’re trying to do is find a club where we can really give the investment that club needs. We want to be able to invest in the community, in the women’s team, in making sure that pathway is there.”

Ever since leaving Newcastle United in the summer, Staveley has been linked most prominently with the North London club, believed to be preparing a £500m proposal for a minority stake.

While Qatar has been mooted as a party that can be brought to the table for Tottenham by the 51-year-old who helped seal the 2008 Abu Dhabi takeover of Manchester City as well as the 2021 Newcastle United takeover that was spearheaded by the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia, other avenues are also open.

Staveley recently met with chefs of the National Football League, which already has an agreement in place with Spurs. She also lodged a fresh complaint against Barclays Bank in the International Chamber of Commerce earlier this year which could culminate in a £830m personal windfall.

TTLB Opinion

Her own track record suggests Staveley will end up getting a stake in Tottenham at some point. It also looks like she may be interested in having more say in a footballing project compared to her previous ventures, which seems unlikely as long as Daniel Levy is in charge at Spurs.

This could result in an interesting war of attrition, because Levy has already expressed the need for investment, but parties like Qatar may be inclined to buy the club outright, ending Levy’s time at the club and putting Staveley in charge.
