Inter Milan have announced the departure of Samir Handanovic.

The former captain departs as a free agent.

Inter announced today:

"An absolute reference, a leader in the locker room, a courageous captain. Samir Handanovic was all of this, in the 11 seasons in which he defended the Nerazzurri goal. His signing with Inter dates back to 9 July 2012, demonstrating from the outset exceptional technical skills combined with a great charisma that made him one of the best goalkeepers in Inter's history.

"Proof of this are the 455 appearances with 166 clean sheets. Thanks to these extraordinary numbers Samir has reached Ivan Ramiro Cordoba (455) in 10th place in the ranking of players with the most appearances for Inter in all competitions, thus entering the top-ten of the all-time appearances ranking of the Nerazzurri history.

"Equally prestigious is the record for penalties saved in the league: there are 32 in total. No one like him in the history of Serie A. An extraordinary career in which, in addition to the Scudetto, he can boast 2 Italian Cups and 2 Italian Super Cups.

"Farewell, thanks and sincere affection from all the fans and the entire Nerazzurri family go to Handanovic.

"Thank you Samir!"
