Evan N’Dicka is said to be in okay shape and good spirits after a major health scare that led to the abandonment of Sunday’s game between Udinese and Roma. The defender collapsed due to chest pain and was quickly stretchered off and taken to a local hospital, Ansa reports.
The 24-year-old always remained conscious throughout the process. The doctor quickly deemed the problem not life-threatening. On the other hand, they are still investigating what happened. The early tests ruled out a stroke. The defibrillator was rushed onto the pitch but wasn’t utilized.
N’Dicka spent the night in a nearby clinic after receiving a visit from the whole Roma team. They left Friuli to head home and prepare for the midweek Europa League tilt versus Milan. The Udinese match was permanently halted in the 71st minute after a long conversation between the two coaches and the referee. Daniele De Rossi checked in with the center-back in the locker room. The early indications were slightly reassuring, but the players didn’t feel like continuing. The fans applauded after the choice.
The League will have to wait to see how far the Giallorossi go in Europe to find a date for the resumption. It was nil-nil at the time, with Romelu Lukaku answering to an early Roberto Pereyra goal.
N’Dicka is currently at the Santa Maria della Misericordia hospital to take tests. The doctors are inspecting some lung-related problems in particular but haven’t excluded any option.
