I believe Kai Havertz was truly worth £65 million, if his last few appearances have shown us something. Many Premier League fans were perplexed by Arsenal’s recruitment of the German international for such a high fee, given that he had failed to be effective and consistent in three seasons at Chelsea, as he had at Bayer Leverkusen.
Mikel Arteta, on the other hand, saw something in Havertz and thought that, of all the midfielders he might have bought to replace Granit Xhaka, the 24-year-old was the one his midfielder required going forward. Of course, it was necessary for Havertz to adjust and provide what was required of him at Arsenal at the start: Arteta was another manager he had to learn from among the several he had worked under at Chelsea, and that plus the fact that he did not play as a No. 8 as a Blue made it difficult for him to be an instant hit at the Emirates.However, it appears like Arsenaal No. 29 is making a comeback, and here’s why:
He has now scored three goals in his past four games for Arsenal. In his previous 30 club outings, he had only scored one goal. In the league, he averages a goal contribution per 207 minutes (last season, he averaged a goal contribution every 323 minutes).
He averages a goal every 276 minutes. If this trend continues, he could wind up with 10 league goals by the end of the season, which would be fantastic.
He perhaps performed his best game for Arsenal against Luton, generating four chances for his teammates and attempting five shots himself.
All in all, Havertz cannot be labelled a flop; he has scored more Premier League goals this season than Dominik Szoboszlai, Mason Mount, and Jack Grealish combined. I hope he continues to soar.

‘Contract terms being discussed’: Liverpool inching closer to another deal before Isak – Fabrizio Romano
Liverpool are continuing to tackle multiple avenues in the summer transfer window, including the potential sale of Darwin Nunez. Despite hopes that Arne Slot could prove to be a transformative presence for the Uruguayan, the striker’s days at Anfield appear to be numbered. Reports had indicated that Italian clubs were seriously interested in the No.9. However, Liverpool’s asking price (reportedly set at €70m [£60.7m]) for Nunez has precluded him from a potential Serie A move. Has Darwin Nunez stance on Saudi Pro League transfer changed? We were initially led to believe that the former Benfica hitman was only really open to a move within the boundaries of Europe. However, judging by Fabrizio Romano’s latest update on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday evening, it would appear that position is not quite fixed. The Italian reports that Al-Hilal ‘have presented [an] official proposal’ to Darwin Nunez. Intriguingly, it would appear as if the negotiations are being entertained by the player and his camp. So, a move certainly isn’t off the table just yet. From a Liverpool perspective, that’s seriously good news given that the likes of Napoli and Co. were not able to fork out the kind of cash we were hoping to receive for the out-of-favour forward. Nunez sale would help Liverpool keep costs down amid Isak pursuit It should be emphasised that Liverpool are in absolutely no danger of breaching PSR this summer – even should we complete a record transfer for Isak. Regardless, it’s nice to see that the club has already made some significant headway in balancing the books with deals for the likes of Luis Diaz (£65.5m) and Jarell Quansah (£35m). A further influx of cash in the region of £60m for Nunez would no doubt be welcome news for a club that continues to be extremely well run behind the scenes. Not to mention beneficial ahead of a potential mammoth fee to be spent on Newcastle’s Alexander Isak. It remains to be seen whether we manage to complete this one before the summer window closes on September 1. But we’re hopeful!

The cold, hard truth is that the Washington Commanders have all of the leverage in the Terry McLaurin contract standoff
The saga between the Washington Commanders and All-Pro WR Terry McLaurin has taken many twists and turns, and it's slowly gotten worse as the summer drags on. McLaurin has been the only side of the negotiations to make any type of move to push leverage and get a deal done sooner rather than later. He's done everything possible from publicly speaking out against the team, sitting out of training camp, returning to camp, and then recently made his biggest power move by requesting a trade. Even after playing every card in his hand this offseason to get leverage on the team, the Commanders still have the upper hand on McLaurin, and absolutely nothing can change that. Why McLaurin won't be traded There have been reports that teams such as the Pittsburgh Steelers have called to check in on trading for McLaurin, and that shouldn't be a surprise. The thing is, though, he will not be traded, and there are a lot of factors that prohibit it from happening. McLaurin is likely worth a second-round pick, in my opinion, but the fact that he allegedly wants a contract extension that averages to about $33 million per year hurts that trade value. No team in the NFL would trade a second round pick while giving a soon to be 30 yeard old WR a new contract worth that much. The Commanders very likely wouldn't receive a trade package worth accepting for their best weapon on offense and get the immediate payoff this season. McLaurin very likely doesn't want to even be traded in the first place. Neither side actually wants McLaurin out of Washington. The likely outcomes for McLaurin and the Commanders There are only two possible outcomes for McLaurin this season: he's either going to be extended, or he's going to have to play the final year of his contract out. The Commanders really could play hardball with McLaurin if he refuses to come down from his number and let him play his final year of his contract out, and they know he wouldn't sit out games and lose even more money. They could either franchise tag McLaurin after the season or let him leave in free agency, so they can recoup a high-value compensation pick for losing the All-Pro. McLaurin's market would likely change drastically unless he has another career-best season, as he would be approaching 31 years old going into free agency. Both outcomes severely hurt what McLaurin is looking for: more money and long-term stability. No matter what McLaurin does, the Commanders hold the keys to decide his fate in Washington. The two can meet in the middle on a number that makes sense, or this could drag into next season, where we do this all again.
Boston Bruins Forward Chooses to Walk Away From the NHL, Signs Multi-Year Deal Overseas
Jakub Lauko has flashed great potential as an NHLer, but now, the former third-round pick and current Boston Bruin is headed home after signing a new deal overseas. Back in 2018, the Boston Bruins used a third round pick on Czech forward Jakub Lauko, and after some promising seasons with the Providence Bruins in the AHL, it appeared as though they had a solid forward of the future on their hands. Since arriving in the NHL however, the 6-foot-1 centre has tallied just 11 goals and 28 points in 139 games played, and after putting up just 5 points in 18 games a season ago, many wondered if he indeed had a future in the National Hockey League. Now, that question has officially been answered, as the 25-year old has signed a deal overseas with HC Dynamite Pardubice of the Czech Extraliga, suggesting that he'll be heading home in 2025/26. While he was never a prolific scorer, Lauko was always seen as a very dynamic bottom-six player at the NHL level, but unfortunately he just hasn't been able to develop and consistently produce at the next level, and it's clear that he has disappointed in the league so far. At 25-years of age, there's plenty of time for Lauko to turn things around and find his way back to the NHL at some stage, but with the opportunity to play on the biggest stage back in his home country in a league that continues to grow in quality and popularity, he may want to spend the rest of his career there, but for now, he's got a great opportunity to do either one.
