European campaign keeping Tottenham squad disharmony in check

There are several reasons why Tottenham are struggling to get positive results this season. The Lilywhites are still sticking to their rigid system under Ange Postecoglou and letting in chances due to individual mistakes. After a season full of disappointments, one would assume that the Australian manager would have learnt from his mistakes and rectified the problems. But that does not seem to be the case.

Spurs find themselves 16th in the Premier League table and just suffered a humbling 5-1 defeat at the hands of Liverpool at Anfield. The difference in quality was evident, and Ange’s men were tactically outclassed by the Reds in all departments. The North London club are enduring their worst-ever Premier League campaign and have already registered 19 league defeats this season.

Daniel Levy faces a pivotal decision over Ange Postecoglou’s future, with pressure mounting after a dismal domestic campaign. However, hope still lingers in Europe. Spurs remain in contention for silverware, having reached the semi-finals of the Europa League. A season-defining clash against Norwegian outfit Bodo/Glimt awaits on Thursday, and progression to the final could yet salvage what has otherwise been a disastrous season. Ultimately, Postecoglou’s fate may hinge on Tottenham’s European run; success on the continent could buy him time, while failure may seal his exit.

Tottenham are ‘spiralling down’ after disastrous season

Tottenham’s players have largely failed to deliver in the Premier League this season, contributing to the club’s alarming slump and pushing Ange Postecoglou closer to an inevitable exit. With results continuing to disappoint, it’s becoming increasingly likely that several players will follow the manager out the door. Key figures such as Cristian Romero and James Maddison now face uncertain futures, and a summer exodus could be on the cards as Spurs prepare for a major reset.

Now, Keith Wyness has suggested that the Lilywhites are spiralling down under Big Ange. The ex-Everton CEO told Football Insider,

“It’s a big sign of how far they’ve fallen. It’s been incredible to watch. We knew about the injuries, but to see the decline has been quite dramatic. Behind the scenes, there must be some disquiet in the dressing room. We know Postecoglou has had his issues with the fans. The European adventure is the only thing keeping them going right now.”

Wyness has warned that Tottenham appear to be spiralling into freefall, with rival clubs quick to exploit their decline. The former Everton CEO also suggested that tensions may be brewing within the Spurs dressing room, following a string of poor results. According to Wyness, the growing disconnect between the club and its supporters has only added to the mounting pressure on Ange Postecoglou.

It now seems almost inevitable that Postecoglou will not remain in charge come summer. Daniel Levy has already begun exploring potential replacements, with talks reportedly underway with several managerial candidates. Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola and former Spurs favourite Mauricio Pochettino are among the names strongly linked with a return to North London.

Tottenham still have a golden opportunity to salvage their season by ending their long-standing trophy drought. Victory in the Europa League would not only deliver the club’s first major silverware in 17 years but also secure a coveted spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League. For all the turmoil and disappointment surrounding their Premier League campaign, lifting the Europa League would change the narrative entirely. Should Ange Postecoglou guide Spurs to European glory, he would not only silence his critics but also etch his name into the club’s history books as the manager who finally delivered silverware.
