Verona are reportedly close to NYCFC right-back Mitja Ilenic and are the new favourites for Milan defender Marco Pellegrino.

Hellas have sold many of their top players in January and are now trying to rebuild before deadline day.

According to Sky Sport Italia, the Serie A side is on the verge of closing a deal for New York City FC right-back Ilenic.

The 19-year-old Slovenian talent was signed from NK Domzale only a year ago for €1m and made 24 competitive appearances for the MLS side, contributing two assists.

That is not all, as transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio also claims that Verona are now leading the race to take Milan defender Pellegrino on loan.

The other candidates are Salernitana, Sampdoria and Cagliari.
