It was Trophy Day yesterday in the baking sunshine at Paradise but the game was one of the forgettable variety until the final seconds of the game when we witnessed an incredible fairytale ending…
The Celtic players looked to have their minds firmly focused on Hampden whilst the Buddies who still had an outside chance of European qualification were well and truly fired up and it showed as the they looked the more hungrier side.
The Paisley side got their opener although if we had our shooting boots on it could’ve been an entirely different story, but we didn’t and Stephen Robinsons well drilled determined side took full advantage to punish our laid back approach to the game. If anything it livened up a rather dull game as it spurred the Celtic players on as they went in search of an equaliser.
Just when it looked like ending in a defeat we got a massive shot in the arm when the man of the moment scored to give us a real genuine fairytale moment that led to a deafening roar that would have been heard throughout Glasgow.
James Forrest, the recently crowned most decorated player in Celtic history, was the man who was roundly applauded in the 49th minute and celebrated in the form of a Tifo scored to not only to spare us a defeat on trophy day, but kept his remarkable record of scoring in every campaign since his debut fifteen years ago.
It was a genuinely touching moment for the player whose name was regularly chanted throughout the game, as it was for his teammates and the supporters who celebrated the moment as if it were a cup final winner. It was a truly remarkable moment and yet another fine example of why we are classed as a fairytale club.
Just remember that Jamesy will be back for more next weekend at Hampden and also next season. Of all the Celtic wingers Jamesy is the one in top form at the moment and surely deserves the nod for the Scottish Cup final on Saturday against Aberdeen.
