Manchester United supporters still hold fond memories of several former players who left a lasting impression despite moving on from Old Trafford years ago.

One of those midfielders has now completed an emotional return to the club where his professional journey first began.

After ending his spell with Boca Juniors earlier this summer, the Spaniard has found a new home.

Many United fans will remember him for the man marking job he did on Eden Hazard.

Ander Herrera re-signs for club

Ander Herrera has officially rejoined boyhood club Real Zaragoza after signing a one-year contract.

The Spanish side confirmed the move in an official statement on their website, welcoming back one of their own after more than a decade away.

“Real Zaragoza and Ander Herrera have reached an agreement for the return home of the youth academy player, who has signed for one season with the club.”

Ander Herrera first joined Zaragoza’s academy at the age of 11 after beginning his football journey with UD Amistad.

He progressed through the club’s youth system before making his senior debut against Levante in February of 2009.

The midfielder quickly established himself in the first team, helping Zaragoza earn promotion back to La Liga before cementing his place in Spain’s top flight over the following seasons.

His performances eventually earned him a move to Manchester United in 2014.

During five seasons at Old Trafford, Herrera became a popular figure among supporters, making almost 200 appearances in all competitions.

The Spaniard helped United lift the FA Cup, Community Shield, Carabao Cup and the 2016/17 UEFA Europa League under Jose Mourinho.

Across his time with the Red Devils, Ander Herrera contributed 20 goals and 27 assists while earning a reputation for his relentless work rate and commitment.

Now, after spells away from Spain and following his recent departure from Boca Juniors, Herrera has completed a full-circle moment by returning to the club where it all began.

The 35-year-old will now look to help Real Zaragoza as they continue writing the next chapter in their history, while adding another memorable chapter to a career that also included a successful spell at Manchester United.
