Ange Postecoglou has been sacked by two Premier League clubs this year.

Ange Postecoglou continues to generate headlines as he weighs up his next managerial move. His exit from Tottenham Hotspur in June 2025 remains a defining chapter in his recent career. He delivered the club’s first major trophy in 17 years with a Europa League triumph, yet Spurs also endured their worst-ever Premier League season, losing 22 league matches and finishing 17th. Despite the emotional weight of his departure, Postecoglou always believed he laid a strong foundation. He instilled a fearless, attacking identity Spurs had lacked, although the board ultimately decided they needed a “change in approach” to compete on all fronts consistently. Nevertheless, his time at Tottenham still influences how clubs view him today.

Celtic and Leeds Keep the Interest Alive

After his brief and bruising spell at Nottingham Forest, interest in Postecoglou has not faded. Top clubs still admire his philosophy, mentality, and ability to transform dressing rooms. Celtic quickly contacted him after Brendan Rodgers resigned on 27 October. Their approach before appointing Wilfried Nancy showed just how much they still value the man who previously led them to domestic dominance. Although he chose not to return, the door clearly remains open.

Leeds United have also surfaced as serious contenders. Former Manchester United and Blackburn scout Mick Brown revealed that Leeds view Postecoglou as a genuine replacement for Daniel Farke. Even their morale-boosting 3–1 win over Chelsea has not eased the pressure on Farke, and the board continues to monitor alternatives as winter unfolds. The more Leeds struggle for consistency, the more Postecoglou’s name gathers momentum in West Yorkshire.

Could Ange Postecoglou Ever Return to Tottenham?

Football Insider transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke said on his podcast that Postecoglou’s time at Nottingham Forest left a bitter taste and that the brief, chaotic spell disrupted his momentum. Although Ange still speaks warmly about his time at Tottenham, a return to the club appears highly unlikely in the near future. Spurs have moved on with a new long-term project, and the board previously signalled a clear shift in direction after parting ways with him despite his Europa League triumph.

Postecoglou also values stability and full control, and he would only consider returning if the club fully aligned with his bold, high-pressing philosophy, something that clashed with Tottenham’s hierarchy before. While his affection for Spurs remains genuine, the conditions that led to their split still exist, making a reunion more romantic in theory than realistic in practice.

However, Postecoglou remains cautious. He wants clarity, patience and the chance to mould a squad through a full pre-season. Joining a club mid-campaign no longer appeals to him.
