Tottenham star James Maddison faces risk of missing the last part of the season through injury

Tottenham Hotspur star James Maddison has been a key player for Ange Postecoglou in recent weeks. The England international has been at the centre of all the positive things happening for the Lilywhites on the pitch. The North London club has endured a difficult season, but Maddison has continued his exceptional form in recent weeks and shown why he is the most reliable player at the club.

The ex-Leicester City player was key in helping Tottenham qualify for the semi-finals of the Europa League. He put his body on the line to win Spurs a penalty against Eintracht Frankfurt in the second leg of the competition. That incident proved to be crucial as Dominic Solanke scored the game’s only goal from the spot and led the Lilywhites into the semi-finals.

The Spurs No.10 was a standout player against Bodo/Glimt as well. The attacking midfielder got on the scoresheet to help Tottenham march towards the finals of the Europa League. But the England international suffered an injury midway through the second half and he was substituted in the 65th minute.

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou says James Maddison’s injury ‘looks worse’

Tottenham faced West Ham United in the Premier League at the London Stadium. The game was a dead rubber as both teams had nothing to play for. So, Ange Postecoglou used this opportunity to rest a few key players before the return leg of the Europa League semi-final clash against Bodo/Glimt on Thursday. The Australian manager made eight changes to the starting eleven and fielded a comparatively weaker side.

But the most notable absentee in the matchday squad was James Maddison. When asked about the 28-year-old’s absence, Ange Postecoglou said in his post-match presser (as transcribed by Football.london),

“It doesn’t look great, but we’re just waiting for further information. We’ll just wait and see. Hopefully we’ll probably get some clarity tomorrow. It’s fair to say it doesn’t look promising but I’ll just wait and see.”

The Spurs manager suggested that Maddison’s injury is serious and the club are waiting to know the exact problem with the England international. Big Ange also insisted that the duration of the injury would be clarified soon but it does not look promising for the Spurs midfielder.

This is a worry for the Lilywhites, who have one foot in the Europa League final. Losing a key player was the last thing Ange Postecoglou needed before such a crucial part of the season. Spurs already lost Lucas Bergvall through a long-term injury a few days back, and have now managed to lose Maddison as well for the semi-final clash.

With a potential trophy on the line, Ange Postecoglou will have to rely on other players to fill the void left behind by the Spurs No.10. The games are coming thick and fast, and Big Ange will hope that the squad does not endure any more injury concerns before the important clash against Bodo/Glimt.
