Manchester United are expected to make several important decisions this summer, with player futures once again dominating discussions around the club.

A number of former United figures are also attracting attention across Europe, especially with managerial changes beginning to reshape the market.

In Italy, one major departure has already sent shockwaves through Serie A.

The managerial carousel is starting to accelerate following the end of the European season, with clubs preparing for significant rebuilds ahead of next year.

Stability has become increasingly difficult to maintain at the top level, even for teams that secure Champions League qualification.

That has now become clear in Naples, where a successful campaign has still ended with a high-profile exit.

Antonio Conte confirms his departure

Antonio Conte has officially confirmed he will leave Napoli this summer, despite guiding the Italian side back into the UEFA Champions League with a second-place finish in Serie A.

The Italian coach made the announcement during a joint press conference alongside club president Aurelio De Laurentiis following Napoli’s 1-0 victory over Udinese in their final match of the season.

Antonio Conte had only arrived in Naples in 2024, but quickly delivered success by helping the club remain competitive domestically after previously leading them to a fourth Serie A title in their history.

Speaking during the emotional media conference, Conte revealed that the decision to leave came entirely from him.

“I was lucky enough to meet a group with whom we spoke clearly, agreed that we had to row in the same direction despite the headwind, and set off again.

“I called the president a month ago, I didn’t want to know anything and I told him: “by virtue of the friendship that binds us, I feel that my journey here is coming to an end.” The decision came from me” Conte explained.

Conte also added: “It’s been an honour, really special to coach Napoli. It’s been two great seasons, an exceptional experience.”

“It was my decision, I told the chairman a few weeks ago. Napoli will always be home.”

Despite securing Champions League football, Napoli ended the season 11 points behind champions Inter Milan, while disappointment in Europe also played a role in the campaign.

Conte has historically struggled to make deep runs in the Champions League, and Napoli failed to progress beyond the group stage this season.

The departure could now have consequences for several players within the squad, including former Manchester United stars Scott McTominay and Rasmus Hojlund.

Napoli invested heavily in the squad with additions such as Kevin De Bruyne and Hojlund, but injuries and inconsistent performances disrupted their title defence throughout the season.

With a new manager expected to arrive, uncertainty could emerge regarding how both former United players fit into the next project in Naples.
