Antonio Valencia is set to make another return in Manchester United colours, with the club officially confirming that the former captain will be involved in an upcoming fixture.
The Ecuador international remains a popular figure among supporters following a successful spell at Old Trafford that saw him become one of the club’s most consistent performers during the 2010s.
Manchester United fans have also become familiar with seeing former players reunite with the club in recent years through special fixtures involving club legends.
Not long ago, Luis Nani returned to represent United in a Legends match against Celtic, bringing back memories of his time playing under Sir Alex Ferguson.
Valencia himself has been part of similar occasions before.
The former winger, who later converted to a right-back, previously returned to Old Trafford when he featured in a Legends match against Celtic, marking an emotional moment for supporters who followed his long career at the club.
Now, Manchester United have confirmed that Antonio Valencia will once again pull on the club’s colours.
The announcement was made on Manchester United’s official website, revealing that the former winger and right-back will take part in an upcoming match later this month.
Valencia is set to feature when Manchester United Legends travel to face Southampton Legends on Saturday 28 March at St Mary’s Stadium.
The fixture is being organised as part of Southampton’s celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of their famous 1976 FA Cup victory over Manchester United.
Valencia made 339 appearances for the club after joining from Wigan Athletic in 2009 and played across multiple positions on the right flank before eventually transitioning into a right-back role.
He also won the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award in the 2011/12 season and later captained the side during the latter stages of his United career.
Several other familiar names are expected to feature in the Legends squad for the upcoming match, including Dimitar Berbatov, Louis Saha and Wes Brown, with strong supporter interest already evident ahead of the event.
