Argentina media react to Lisandro Martinez display vs Bolivia

Lisandro Martinez has already built an international career decorated with the kind of success most players can only dream about.

The Manchester United defender helped Argentina end a 28-year trophy drought by winning the Copa America in 2021 before lifting the Finalissima against Italy the following year.

Then came the ultimate prize.

Martinez featured five times as Lionel Scaloni’s side won the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, becoming world champions for the first time since 1986.

Another Copa America followed in 2024, with Martinez starting the final victory over Colombia.

Argentina came agonisingly close to retaining their world crown this summer.

Martinez started the 2026 World Cup final against Spain but was forced off injured before half-time as La Albiceleste eventually lost 1-0 after extra-time.

Argentine media praised Martinez despite that painful defeat, and the United star has now returned to international action.

Martinez started alongside new captain Cristian Romero as Argentina demolished Bolivia 4-0 at the Estadio Mario Alberto Kempes.

Scaloni’s side dominated possession and barely allowed Bolivia across halfway.

Lautaro Martinez opened the scoring before Nico Paz produced a clever finish for the second.

Romero headed home after the break before Jose Manuel Lopez completed the rout late on.

Martinez enjoyed a comfortable defensive evening but remained important in possession.

He regularly stepped froward to circulate the ball, helped Argentina sustain attacks and quickly dealt with the rare moments Bolivia attempted to break.

He almost added a goal himself, heading narrowly wide from Franco Mastantuono’s corner, before Valentin Gomez replaced him after 80 minutes.

TyC Sports awarded Martinez 6/10, highlighting his positioning and contribution when Argentina built from defence.

VAVEL Argentina also gave him 6/10, praising his anticipation, covering and distribution.

Meanwhile, El Dia rated Martinez 7/10, noting his assured defending and usefulness when playing out from the back.

It was a controlled return for Lisandro Martinez as Argentina began their post-World Cup chapter emphatically.
