Arne Slot spoke in a press conference ahead of Liverpool’s tricky fixture against AC Milan in the Champions League. The Reds suffered a disappointing loss at home to Nottingham Forest in their league campaign return, after the international Break. It was a result that displeased the Dutchman, as Liverpool had been in hot form prior to the break.

Slot however demanded a better response from his team in their tough away fixture against Milan. Arne Slot also addressed the availability of certain players and team quality ahead of the game on Tuesday.

Arne Slot ahead of the Game

The Liverpool coach has demanded an improvement from his team. A better response compared to their display on Saturday. A lot of factors had affected the team on Saturday, and Arne Slot has addressed, and in return wants his team to show their true quality ahead of the Tuesday tie.

He said: “Tomorrow I expect a completely different game to Saturday. If you drop points at home to Nottingham Forest then something is wrong. For me it was too simple to put that loss on a lack of rotation. We could have done a lot of things a lot better [vs Forest] which was not related to rotation.”

He continued referring to the fact that his birthday was upcoming, however, it’s not his priority, as the game on Tuesday is a bigger task for him. He added: “This is the first time that my birthday is not so important. It’s a big game not just for me, but for us. The history between the two sides and the venue of the game makes it one to really look forward to.”

Arne Slot on Szoboszlai and Mac Allister

Slot has spoken about Liverpool’s two midfield stars. He firstly addressed Szoboszlai, lauding him for his qualities however, he has also demanded more from the Hungarian, especially in the areas of output, and delivery. He also talked about Mac Allister’s fitness, and he’ll assess whether the Argentine will be ready to play the full 90 minutes.

Slot said: “He has been important for us. He has been outstanding in his pressing game. Something that we have to work on with him is scoring goals and creating chances. His numbers need to go up but I am really happy with him and I’m sure his numbers will go up. I took Mac Allister off around 60 minutes versus Forest, which had a lot to do with Argentina and injuries. I think he can play 60 or 90 minutes tomorrow, I will decide. He is an important player for us.”

Arne Slot on AC Milan and Rafael Leo

Liverpool’s coach also spoke about AC Milan and their star forward Rafael Leao. The Dutchman referred to Leao as a player of great qualities. He also revealed how his team plans to stop him and Milan.

He said: “We have studied his quality and he is one who catches your eye. How to stop him at his best, we defend as a team to stop the quality of Rafa Leao. They have quality players and he is one of their top players in my opinion. We are not scared but we have a lot of respect for AC Milan. They have a lot of quality.”
