Arsenal close to signing Manchester United-linked striker

As the summer transfer window continues to progress, Arsenal and Manchester United are both aiming to improve their respective squads.

United, who beat the Gooners at the Emirates Stadium last season, have already signed Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans, and Karl Darlow in this summer’s window.

The club are looking to move beyond that, though, in an effort to maximise the chances that Michael Carrick has of delivering success for the side.

Myles Lewis-Skelly, who came through the Arsenal youth system, has once again been linked with a move to Old Trafford with United making an inquiry about the full-back.

The 19-year-old Englishman made 20 appearances in the Premier League last season as Arsenal went onto win the league title.

Now, the Gooners look to closing in on a long-term target of theirs with Alan Nixon reporting that the club are to a deal for Igor Tyjon.

The forward, of Blackburn Rovers, has been linked with a move to both Arsenal and Manchester United previously.

United opened the bidding last year, with this swiftly rejected by Blackburn, before the Premier League champions joined the race for the forward.

Tyjon’s demands have previously stood out as an issue in this deal, with Blackburn Rovers seeing their own contract extension offer turned down.

Nixon reports that Arsenal are aiming to agree a deal worth around £2m plus add-ons with the side looking to sort this deal quickly now.

The journalist also states that Blackburn want cash, due to the Championship side’s need to recruit in the last few months of the transfer window.

With it now looking like Manchester United have dropped out of the battle to sign Igor Tyjon, Arsenal appear to have a clear path.

Focus will now switch towards negotiations with Arsenal and Blackburn.
