Manchester United is set to transform its midfield squad during the upcoming summer transfer window.
Manchester United has already begun preparing to cope with any potential exits from its midfield squad as several of its players are nearing the end of their Old Trafford career.
Casemiro’s status at Old Trafford has been at the centre of all discussions regarding his exit at the end of the season.
Discussions during recruitment meetings have focused on identifying players who can dominate games from midfield.
Consequently, several top talents across Europe have been included on Manchester United’s radar ahead of what promises to be an exciting window.
One player who has consistently been included on the list of potential signings is Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali.
Tonali has consistently been hailed across Europe as a top talent who has been able to dictate play from midfield while at the same time contributing to his team from a defensive position.
However, it appears that events taking place across the Premier League may work to Manchester United’s advantage as it seeks to acquire Tonali’s services.
According to Chronicle Live, Arsenal has effectively ruled out any chances of acquiring Tonali’s services as it had briefly considered him during the winter window.
During that period, there were claims that Tonali’s agent, Giuseppe Riso, had mentioned his client’s name to Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta.
However, it is alleged that the claims were refuted by Tonali’s agent himself.
While this is not officially stated, it is understood that Arsenal were made aware of this earlier in the year and decided not to pursue it.
Since then, Arsenal have reportedly started thinking about their targets for this summer, and it is understood that Sandro Tonali was not on their initial list of targets during their internal discussions.
This is partly because Arsenal are reportedly constrained by financial issues, as they are believed to be working under the profitability and sustainability rules set by the Premier League.
This is despite sources indicating that they might have around £40 million to spend this summer, which means they are unlikely to pursue this deal.
This might just remove one major competitor should Manchester United decide to pursue this deal more seriously.
Newcastle United are still keen on holding onto their prized asset and are under no obligation to sell him despite his increasing importance to the team.
This is despite interest from top European clubs, as Manchester United and Real Madrid have reportedly shown interest in monitoring his situation.
This might prove to be significant should Arsenal decide not to pursue this deal.
