Paul Pogba’s career has taken almost every twist imaginable since he first burst onto the scene as a teenager at Manchester United.
He left Old Trafford for Juventus back in 2012, only to return four years later in a deal worth around €105million that was a world record at the time.
His second spell in Manchester brought Europa League and League Cup success before his contract expired and he departed again in 2022.
What followed was a period defined by setbacks, including an 18-month doping ban that kept him off the pitch entirely.
Since returning to action with Monaco, injuries have continued to disrupt his career, limiting him to just 6 Ligue 1 appearances and 115 minutes of football last season.
That difficult spell at the French club has now come to an end, with Paul Pogba and Monaco agreeing to terminate his contract, as the French club announced on their website.
The deal, which had been due to run until June 2027, has been cut short after both parties jointly concluded that the objectives initially set had only been partially achieved.
The decision follows another injury blow for the 33-year-old during Monaco’s pre-season camp in England, where he went down in training and needed treatment before leaving the session.
He’d only just returned to group training following a long-standing right-knee problem, having played just one half of football throughout the entire pre-season.
The injury occurred at St George’s Park, where Monaco were training after beating Liverpool in a friendly last week.
In total, Pogba’s time in the principality was blighted by ankle, knee, calf and recurrent left thigh problems, restricting him to only six competitive appearances before the mutual termination in August 2026.
The 2018 World Cup winner said, “I would like to thank the President and the management, my teammates, all the staff members and every supporter who believed in me.
“Representing this club and the principality was an incredible experience.
“AS Monaco is an incredible club and although I did not play as many games as I had hoped, I will always be grateful for the opportunity to wear their colours. Daghe Munegu!”
Monacosaid in a statement of their own, “AS Monaco sincerely thanks Paul and wishes him every success in the future.”
It brings to a close another turbulent chapter in a career that once promised so much, with Pogba’s next move now the subject of fresh speculation.
