Spurs can witness some big changes in the squad in the summer transfer window.

Tottenham are back on the big stage. After winning the Europa League, the team secured their ticket to the next edition of the Champions League. The project is starting to take shape with more solid foundations, and the planning of the squad is already moving forward with clear decisions.

The board understands that it needs a mix of experience and youth to compete with guarantees in Europe. This return not only raises the spirits of the fans but also requires a more refined and functional squad. Within this process of readjustment, several names are marked for departure. One of them is Sergio Reguilón, whose time in North London seems to have come to an end.

As reported by L’Équipe, Monaco have already begun talks with the 28-year-old Spanish left-back. With his contract expiring at the beginning of next month, the Ligue 1 club do not want to waste any time.

Reguilón is at the top of Monaco’s list of priorities to reinforce the left flank, an area they are looking to strengthen as soon as possible. There is even talk of internal confidence on the part of the French side to close the deal soon. Moreover, the fact that Eric Dier, the full-back’s former Tottenham team-mate, is joining the Monaco project from Bayern could make things easier.

Tottenham are right not to renew Reguilón. His performance never lived up to expectations. Between injuries and technical decisions, his presence was increasingly residual. The Spaniard returned from loan spells without managing to regain a leading role, and the team simply cannot afford to maintain the salaries of players who do not count.

With the Champions League on the horizon, the Londoners must focus their resources on profiles that adapt to Ange Postecoglou’s system or any manager who replace him. Players capable of offering defensive solidity and offensive qualities, something that Reguilón showed at times but not consistently. The club needs committed, fit full-backs with immediate impact.

From another point of view, freeing up his contract also opens up space for young talent, or even to look for a more stable option on the local or international market. In this context, saying goodbye is not synonymous with failure, but with consistency. And for the future, Tottenham must invest in a physical, fast player, with room for improvement, and with the hunger to consolidate himself in a team that wants to return to competing among the big teams.
